Boardman River Clean Sweep
Brown Bridge Landing Dock Meeting Report
January 21, 2024
2024 Project #1

Reb from the GTCD asked Harold and me to meet with him about an idea he has to alter the BBL dock to make it more
friendly for kayakers. We discussed moving the dock but it is in the best location now.

The idea is to add a lower section to the dock for kayakers without having to get a permit from the MI-EGLE or the
MI-DNR or the US- Army Corps of Engineers.

We came up with a plan that will add a small section to the dock on the downstream end that will be 6" lower to the water
and to hand move some boulders upstream to make an eddy in the location where the new dock section will be.
Also, we discussed placing a set of setps on the upstream end of the existing dock to help people get on to the dock.

There is a small natural beach just downstream but it is swampy and protected by logs. That may be an option later
if the new dock section doesn't work. Using it for a landing will cause a lot of erosion.

All the photos for this project are here:

UPDATE:

In Mid-March, Reb Ratliff and his GTCD crew added a small step to this platform at the BBL on the upstream side to
help paddlers get up to the dock.

Handles and some rock fill will be added to make this a more accessable landing.
