Boardman River Clean Sweep
LaFranier Rd. Recycle Station Cleanup Report
November 2, 2023
2023 Project #51

I got a call from David Schaffer, the GT Recycle Director, for some help keeping the LaFranier Recycle Station clean.
He asked for volunteers to do a weekly, bi-weekly, tri-weekly or monthly cleanup there on a regular basis.

I put out the word to all my regular dumpsite volunteers and on Nextdoor. Over 2500 people saw the posts but only one
responded. Pam C. is the winner of the volunteer of the month award for that signup and she actually showed up for the
first ever cleanup, too. There was only about 15 pounds of litter to be swept up and disposed of in the GT Offices dumpster.

It was a remarkably easy 30 minute task and with a little practice and better tools, we will be able to do it in 20 minutes.

We will do this project as much as we can considering our schedules and the weather conditions.

UPDATE - 11/16/2023

The BRCS has added some tools that will work better at this site and we have used them four times so far in a month
and a half. The site is staying cleaner that ever before with only occasional simple cleanups. We have two vonuteers.
So far this project has been a big success even with only 2 volunteers working only 4 times in 45 days.

Our work today was partially funded by grants from:

The Consumers Energy Foundation

National Cherry Festival Foundation

Adams Chapter Trout Unlimited

And private donors like you.
