Boardman River Clean Sweep
Rasho Rd Shingles Report
May 4, 2023

First, let me thank those who arrived today hoping to have a good time working in the woods
and found two piles of shingles staring back at them. Shingles are the worst but that didn't stop them.

They cheerfully removed 91 bags of shingles, each weighing about 30 - 40 pounds in less than an hour.
If you do the math on that 7th grade problem, you will see that it was over 3000 pounds of trash. What
was especially cool was that strangers who were driving by stopped to help us. Thank you, Steve!>br>

This group of mostly retired people took 3000 pounds of trash out of the environment in less than one hour!

Our trailer made it up the hills to the disposal site but just barely.

Raleigh helped us unload the bags into the dumpster. Thanks for the extra help Raleigh!

After we dropped the shingles off, Karl and I did a RECON and found more sites but we also found that some
sites on our list have already been cleaned up. In all, we cleared 6 sites off our list today.

Thank you again for your willingness to help keep Grand Traverse County free of illegal dumpsites.

Our work today was partially funded by a grant from the Consumers Energy Foundation.

A big THANK YOU! goes out to DNR Field Office at Mill Rd for letting us use their dumpsters.
