In late August of 2023, Lois Goldstein and John Heiam were killed in an auto accident on their way
home from a river cleanup on the Pine River. Lois and John were both teachers and loved teaching
children all sorts of skills. They were also 2 of the founders of the TAPC in 1999.

The TAPC thought it only fitting that the kayak and paddle the club awarded to students who participated in
river cleanups be given in Lois' and John's name as a memorial to the work they did on the rivers and to
their memory. This is the first year that is being done. A small plaque was made and attached to the kayak
to designate the award to their memory.

The 2024 winner of the TAPC Lois Goldstein and John Heiam Memorial Kayak and Paddle is Jane Kurkowski
of TC Cenrtal High School.
